Congratulations to our winner, Sue Wear, one of our Outstanding Women of 2023!

Sue Wear WOKO

Nominated by: Carolyn Siccama

“The work that she does is remarkable, and we are so very lucky that we have her in our community making a difference in the lives of animals and families who have lost their pets.” – Carolyn Siccama

Sue Wear serves a unique and crucial role in her community – “Chittenden County’s Pet Sleuth Extraordinaire.” When a pet owner encounters the distressing situation of having their animal go missing, Sue steps in to help. She spends countless hours making and hanging signs, setting up elaborate game cameras, and placing food and safety traps to locate these stressed, scared animals and reunite them with their owners. This can be a weeks-long or even months-long process, but Sue is there for the families through it all. In this way, she has helped countless Vermonters, even beyond Chittenden County, reunite with their furry friends. She does this all on her own time, and at her own expense, simply because of her love of animals.
