GETTING TO KNOW…ROD HILL

Are you a cat person or a dog person?

The busy lifestyle of a broadcast engineer keeps me away from home too much to give a dog the kind of attention they deserve… so right now I’m a cat person… maybe later doggos.

What do you love most about living in the Champlain Valley?

The mornings… sunrise over the green mountains, the way the lake shines, I often hope people who come and visit are getting up early.

What’s your favorite thing to cook for other people?

Big batches of chili, salsa, spaghetti sauce and then freeze ‘em for later.

What is something else (besides radio) that you’re good at?

Working computer problems is one of my other jobs at the BIG station… I’m pretty good at asking people if they’ve restarted their computer.

How would you describe the way you dance?

Pretty good, country line dancing was the highlight of my dancing career.

What’s your go-to karaoke jam?

I’ve “sang” karaoke once, while imbibing adult beverages… I sang “Okie From Muskogee”

What’s your most embarrassing moment on the radio?

I dropped the F-bomb FOUR TIMES one morning on the Morning Roundup, the mic was accidentally left on and I dropped the bomb… Jim Whitehead couldn’t hear that well that morning “What?” he replied. I repeated myself. “What?” I dropped the third bomb. “What?” as I repeated my vulgarity for the fourth time I noticed the phones ringing off the hook. Needless to say… never again.

Who is your favorite country artist of all time?

George Strait.

What’s your favorite country song of all time?

Amarillo By Morning – George Strait.

What’s your favorite thing about BIG Country 98.9 WOKO?

The listeners. We’d literally be two guys talking to ourselves in a walk in closet if it wasn’t for the wonderful folks who listen to us each day. Thank you.
